The Battle of New Orleans

In 1840 we took a little trip, along with Col. Jackson, down the mighty Mississippi; we took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we fought the bloomin British in the town of New Orleans!

It would appear from the words of this classic song that Col. Jackson moved a dam site quicker and more effectively than the present US Government in dealing with the crises of New Orleans!

Our heart felt sympathy goes out to those helpless individuals and families who have suffered from this enormous natural disaster. Having lost a loved one when Hurricane Mitch struck Honduras, I know how devastating it can be.

New Orleans holds a special memory for me, like I'm sure many others. No I was not lucky enough to visit during Mardi Gras, but about 3 years ago having completed the setting up of the exit program for Fairfield Resorts at Dolphins Cove in Anaheim C.A., I was invited to spend a week at Fairfield's newly acquired time share property, the Avenue Plaza Resort in New Orleans.

What many people are not aware of I dare say including many Fairfield Exectutatives, is that tucked away behind this Charles St. frontage lay one of America's treasures!

Ashley House! Built in 1840, and at the time of my visit furnished with authentic antiques and period reproductions, it was used according to historical records to house Confederate prisoners. In fact some of their original graffiti still remained on the walls, though in traditional “Military” style some is a little too explicit to publish!

Guests were invited to tour the building at appointed times, and owners could use the facility for only the payment of a cleaning charge. I believe a number of Psychic societies conducted séances there!

I have no doubt that nothing remains of this National Treasure. Like much that we remember of this remarkable city it lies in ruins. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to visit this great city and this unique property. I have produced a screensaver of my visit and would be happy to send a copy to anyone interested for the production, postage and packing charge only. Email me if you would like a copy.

In utilizing your timeshare weeks look for those unique locations like New Orleans (and in fact for that matter right here in Malta where I'm now based) that provide a glimpse of our remarkable past and historic memories. These are times you and your families will truly treasure in years to come and what make “timeshare ownership” such a great family investment.

May your thoughts and prayers be with those who's lives have been shattered by this terrible tragedy.
